The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
The RCIA is a program tailored for those adults (18 and older) who are not Catholic and have a desire to become Catholic, those who are currently Catholic and who wish to be Confirmed, and for Catholics who wish to be enriched and nourished in our Catholic Faith. This is an opportunity for growth in an individually tailored journey to grow closer to God and His family of faith in Iota & Egan.
At our parish of St. Joseph & St. Michael, Fr. Jude tailors this program to match each individual's needs. The first step is to contact the office and get some preliminary information (downloadable below) so that Fr. Jude can assess one's particular stage in life. After that, each person who wishes to continue on this unique journey in faith in the Discovery of God is paired up with a currently practicing Catholic couple of Fr. Jude choosing. After a period of time of learning, prayer, penance and sacrifice, the time frame for the reception of the necessary sacraments will be determined.
Those who have never been baptized and those who were baptized in another faith will need more instruction than those who have been raised Catholic but not Confirmed. A person is received fully into the Catholic Church at the annual celebration of the Easter Vigil (the day before Easter Sunday each year). The process usually takes about a year, depending upon circumstances. However, an adult may only be baptized, profess the Catholic faith (those who are baptized in another faith), and/or Confirmed at the Easter Vigil celebration.
